How to record your screen using a Microsoft Utility

Many a times recording your screen is essential to your interactions be it through presentations, tutorials or demonstrations. There are not many good options available for screen recording. However the best option is a Microsoft utility developed on top of Windows Media Encoder, that lets you easily capture what is going on to a small video file, which you can then send via e-mail to the appropriate person.

Download the free Utility Spotlight: Screenrecorder from Microsoft here. Save file to disk and install the Screenrecorder.
Once installed, launch the Screenrecorder, below window will be shown.

You can record your voice by checking Audio checkbox. Default recording device will be used to record the voice. In the absence of proper settings or device, recorder will warn you.
Always select the 'No Border Flashing' to avoid annoying the red border flashing.

Click on 'Please Click here to specify filename' and specify the location to store the file .wmv file.

Start, Stop and Pause will perform appropriately. When paused, resume button will start capturing from the state you paused.
A counter will show the actual capture time. Once recorded you can play the video in Windows Media Player, right click the video when playing, then select Video Size and 100%.

You can embed the video in power point, attach it in tutorials or send as an attachment to emails.
